In J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, Harry plays Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
The Seeker’s main task is to catch the Golden Snitch, a small flying ball whose capture usually ends the match and awards 150 points. Because the Snitch is worth so many points, the Seekers can determine the result even after a long game.
Harry first plays for Gryffindor during his first year at Hogwarts. Professor Minerva McGonagall recommends him after seeing his flying ability, and he receives a Nimbus 2000 broomstick. He becomes one of the youngest Hogwarts Seekers in a century.
The other Quidditch roles are Keeper, Chaser, and Beater. Keeper guards the goal hoops, Chasers score with the Quaffle, and Beaters use bats to redirect Bludgers. These roles are distinct from Harry’s position.
