In Hindu mythology, who is traditionally regarded as the creator deity in the Trimurti?

The story behind the answer

Brahma is traditionally regarded as the creator deity in the Hindu Trimurti.

The Trimurti groups Brahma with Vishnu, the preserver, and Shiva, the destroyer or transformer. Brahma is commonly shown with four heads, four faces, and four arms, symbolizing his knowledge of the four Vedas and the four directions. His consort is Saraswati, the goddess associated with learning, music, and speech.

Brahma should not be confused with Brahman, the formless ultimate reality discussed in Hindu philosophy. The similar spelling often causes confusion, but they are distinct concepts. Brahma is a personal deity with a mythological role, while Brahman is a philosophical and theological principle.

Although Brahma is central to creation myths, he has comparatively few major temples and independent devotional traditions today. The best-known surviving temple dedicated to him is at Pushkar in Rajasthan, India.
