In Greek mythology, who is Pandora’s husband when she opens the container sent by Zeus?

The story behind the answer

Epimetheus is Pandora’s husband in the Greek myth in which she opens the container sent by Zeus.

Epimetheus is a Titan associated with hindsight, while his brother Prometheus is associated with forethought. Zeus sends Pandora to Epimetheus after Prometheus has stolen fire for humanity. Although Prometheus warns his brother not to accept gifts from Zeus, Epimetheus accepts Pandora.

The myth connects Pandora’s arrival with the spread of suffering among humans. The container is opened, and its contents escape into the world; in the familiar version, hope remains within it. Hesiod’s account does not make Pandora a simple villain, since the story places her creation inside Zeus’s larger punishment of humanity.

Epimetheus is often confused with Prometheus because the brothers appear together in the same mythic episode. Their names and symbolic roles contrast sharply: Prometheus looks ahead, while Epimetheus understands events afterward.
