In Germany, Father's Day is celebrated on which Christian holiday?

The story behind the answer

In Germany, Father’s Day is celebrated on Ascension Day. The date follows the Christian calendar rather than a fixed day in June: Ascension Day falls on the Thursday, 39 days after Easter Sunday, or the 40th day of Eastertide.

Germany’s observance is commonly called Vatertag, while regional usage also includes Herrentag or Männertag. In many places, groups of men mark the day with walks, decorated handcarts, food, and drinks. The modern social customs can look more secular than the religious holiday on which the date is based.

This differs from the U.S. Father’s Day, which is held on the third Sunday in June. Pentecost is another movable Christian feast that follows Easter, so it is an understandable mix-up, but it is not the traditional German Father’s Day date. Easter itself is also not the answer because Ascension Day is a separate feast later in the season.
