In Genesis’s Noah’s Ark story, what was the Ark’s length in cubits?

The story behind the answer

Genesis gives Noah’s Ark a length of 300 cubits. Genesis 6:15 lists the Ark’s three principal dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.

A cubit was an ancient unit traditionally related to the length of a forearm, but its exact value varied by culture and period. For that reason, converting the Ark’s length into modern metres or feet involves an estimate. Using commonly cited cubit values produces a length of roughly 137 metres, or about 450 feet.

The biblical measurements describe a large rectangular vessel rather than a conventional ship with a pointed bow. Genesis focuses on the Ark’s capacity and survival during the Flood, not on navigation, sails, or a rudder.

The 300-cubit figure is distinct from the Ark’s width and height. Mixing those measurements is a common source of incorrect answers.
