In Genesis's Noah's Ark story, the ark had a window near its top. Genesis 6:16 tells Noah to make an opening, or window, and finish the ark with a covering or roof above it.
The precise design is difficult to reconstruct because translations differ over the Hebrew wording and measurements. Some versions describe a window, while others use a term connected with daylight or an opening. The text does not give a modern architectural diagram or specify the exact mechanism by which the opening was closed.
This window becomes important later in the narrative. Noah opens it before sending out a raven and then sends doves to test whether the floodwater has receded. It should not be confused with a door: Genesis separately says that the ark had a door in its side.
