In Genesis's Noah's Ark story, how old was Noah when the Flood waters came?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis's Noah's Ark story, Noah was 600 years old when the Flood waters came. Genesis 7:6 states his age immediately before describing his entry into the Ark and the beginning of the catastrophe.

The age belongs to the story's genealogical framework, in which unusually long lifespans are assigned to antediluvian patriarchs. Genesis first introduces Noah as the son of Lamech and later records that he fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth. His age at the Flood is therefore both a chronological marker and part of the larger family history.

Readers sometimes confuse Noah's age at the Flood with his age when his sons were born or with his total lifespan. Genesis 9:28 says Noah lived 350 years after the Flood and died at 950, so the two figures are different milestones in the narrative.
