In Genesis’s account of Noah’s Ark, Noah is commanded to build the ark before the Flood.
Genesis presents Noah as a righteous man living in a violent and corrupt world. God instructs him to construct a large vessel, preserve his family, and bring animals aboard so life can survive the coming Flood. Noah follows the instructions and becomes the central human figure in the biblical flood narrative.
Noah is sometimes confused with other major figures in Genesis, especially Abraham, who appears later and is associated with the covenant involving his descendants. Moses also receives detailed divine instructions, but his story concerns the Exodus rather than the ark. The name Noah comes from the Hebrew נֹחַ, commonly connected with rest or comfort.
