In Genesis, which of Noah’s sons are named as his companions aboard the ark?
Answer
Shem, Ham and Japheth
Answer
Shem, Ham and Japheth
In Genesis, Noah’s sons aboard the ark are named Shem, Ham and Japheth.
Genesis 7:13 lists Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives entering the ark before the Flood. The account therefore presents eight human occupants in total: Noah and his wife, three sons, and three daughters-in-law.
The three names are also important in the genealogical chapters that follow. Genesis 10 uses their descendants to organize a table of nations, which is why they are often called the progenitors of post-Flood peoples in biblical interpretation.
They should not be confused with later patriarchs such as Isaac, Jacob, or Joseph, who belong to different generations in Genesis.
