In Genesis, which mountain range is named as the place where Noah’s Ark came to rest?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah’s Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 says that the Ark rested on the “mountains of Ararat” after the floodwaters began to recede. The wording refers to a mountainous region rather than explicitly naming one single peak. Ararat is commonly associated with the ancient kingdom or region of Urartu, located around parts of modern eastern Turkey and neighboring areas.

A common mix-up is to answer Mount Ararat, the prominent volcanic peak in present-day Turkey. Mount Ararat became the traditional candidate for the Ark’s landing place, but the biblical wording is plural and says “mountains,” not “Mount Ararat.”

Numerous expeditions and alleged discoveries have connected the Ark with Mount Ararat, but no accepted archaeological evidence has verified the vessel’s survival. The Genesis account itself supplies the geographical phrase without identifying a precise modern summit.
