In Genesis, what were the dimensions of Noah's Ark in cubits?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah’s Ark measured 300 by 50 by 30 cubits. Genesis 6:15 gives the vessel’s length, breadth, and height in that order: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.

A cubit was an ancient unit commonly related to the length of a forearm, but its exact value varied by culture and period. Using a common estimate of about 45 centimetres, the Ark would be roughly 135 metres long, 23 metres wide, and 14 metres high. Those modern conversions are approximate because the biblical text does not define one exact cubit length.

Genesis also says the Ark had rooms, a side door, and lower, second, and third decks. The text presents it as a large, box-like survival vessel rather than a conventional sailing ship, and it does not describe a mast, sails, or a rudder.

The measurements come from Genesis and should not be confused with later artistic reconstructions, which often add details absent from the biblical account.
