In Genesis, what was Noah’s first action after leaving the Ark?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah’s first recorded action after leaving the Ark was building an altar.

Genesis 8:20 says Noah built an altar to the Lord after the ground had dried and God told him to leave the Ark. He then offered burnt offerings from animals and birds identified as clean. The passage presents this act as the first event recorded after the Ark’s passengers and animals came out.

The story later says Noah planted a vineyard, drank wine, and became drunk, but that occurs after the altar episode. This order is important because popular retellings sometimes place the vineyard immediately after the landing. Genesis does not describe Noah constructing a settlement, founding a city, or assigning names to the animals after the Flood.
