In Genesis, what did the dove bring Noah when it returned the second time?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, the dove brought Noah a freshly plucked olive leaf when it returned the second time.

Genesis 8 describes Noah sending out a dove after the raven. The dove first returned because it found no place to rest. Seven days later, Noah sent it again, and it came back in the evening carrying a freshly plucked olive leaf. Noah understood this as evidence that the floodwaters had receded.

The olive leaf became a widely recognized symbol of peace and the end of danger, although Genesis specifically presents it as a sign about the condition of the land. The passage does not say that the dove carried an entire olive branch. Later art and idiom commonly show or mention a branch, but the biblical wording is an olive leaf.
