In Genesis, Noah’s Ark was specified as 30 cubits high.
Genesis 6:15 gives the Ark three main measurements: 300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in width, and 30 cubits in height. The text presents these dimensions as instructions given to Noah before the Flood. A cubit was an ancient unit commonly associated with the length of a forearm, although its exact value varied by culture and period.
The height is often confused with the Ark’s length because 300, 50, and 30 are listed together. The 300-cubit figure describes length, while 50 cubits describes width and 30 cubits describes height. Converting the height into modern units is therefore approximate; depending on the cubit used, it is often estimated at roughly 13 to 18 metres.
The biblical dimensions have also influenced later artistic reconstructions, models, and discussions of the Ark’s proportions. These calculations describe the vessel in the Genesis narrative, not a verified archaeological measurement of a surviving boat.
