In Genesis, how old was Noah when he died?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah was 950 years old when he died.

Genesis 9:29 gives Noah’s total lifespan as 950 years. The figure comes after the Flood narrative, Noah’s covenant, and the account involving his sons. It is therefore distinct from the statement that Noah was 600 years old when the Flood began.

Genesis also says Noah lived 350 years after the Flood. Adding that post-Flood period to his age at the Flood produces the stated total of 950 years.

Noah’s age belongs to the long lifespans assigned to several antediluvian and early post-Flood figures in Genesis. It should not be confused with the 120 years mentioned in Genesis 6:3, which appears in a separate statement and is interpreted in different ways by commentators rather than serving as Noah’s recorded age at death.
