In Genesis, three sons of Noah are named as survivors aboard the Ark.
Genesis identifies Noah’s sons as Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The Flood narrative says that Noah entered the Ark with his wife, his sons, and the wives of his sons. Together, these eight people are presented as the human survivors of the Flood, but the question about Noah’s sons specifically has the answer three.
The sons are also important after the Flood, especially in Genesis 9, which recounts an incident involving Noah and his sons. Genesis 10 then presents a genealogy of nations associated with Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This is why their names remain central to later biblical genealogical traditions.
A common error is to answer eight, the total number of people aboard, or four, counting Noah alongside his sons. The wording distinguishes Noah from his three named male children.
