In Genesis, three sons of Noah—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—survived the Flood aboard the Ark.
Genesis names Noah’s sons before the Flood narrative and later identifies them as passengers on the ark with Noah’s wife, their wives, and Noah. The three names are Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Together with Noah and the four women, they make eight human survivors in the biblical account.
The sons are important beyond the ark story because Genesis 10 presents a genealogy known as the Table of Nations. It associates peoples and regions with the descendants of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, although these genealogical interpretations belong to the ancient text’s worldview rather than modern population science.
A frequent error is counting Noah’s daughters-in-law as additional sons or saying that the story names four sons. Genesis names three sons. It does not give the names of their wives, and it does not state that other named children survived the Flood.
