In Genesis, how many decks did Noah’s Ark have?
Answer
Three decks
Answer
Three decks
In Genesis, Noah’s Ark had three decks.
Genesis 6:16 instructs Noah to make the Ark with lower, second, and third decks. This is one of the few architectural details supplied by the biblical text, alongside the vessel’s length, width, height, door, and window.
The three-level description is not a modern naval specification. Genesis does not provide a detailed floor plan, explain how animals were arranged, or state the height of each deck. Later illustrations and reconstructions therefore make assumptions that go beyond the text. The decks are also separate from the Ark’s overall dimensions, which Genesis gives as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.
