In Genesis, how long was Noah’s Ark measured from end to end?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah’s Ark was measured as 300 cubits from end to end.

Genesis 6:15 gives the Ark’s three principal dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. A cubit was an ancient length based approximately on the distance from an adult’s elbow to the fingertips, but its exact historical value varied. For that reason, the biblical measurement is more precise as a textual ratio than as a modern conversion.

Using a common cubit estimate of about 45 centimetres, 300 cubits would be roughly 135 metres, or about 450 feet. The narrative emphasizes the Ark’s large, box-like proportions rather than a ship design intended for navigation. Genesis says it was built to preserve life during the Flood, not to travel to a named destination. The length figure is sometimes confused with dimensions from later flood traditions or modern recreation projects, but 300 cubits is the number stated in Genesis.
