In Four Swords Adventures, four Links can play. The Four Sword splits the hero into four color-coded versions—green, red, blue, and purple—who work together throughout the adventure.
The game’s main Hyrulean Adventure campaign supports one to four players. In single-player mode, one person controls the group, while the other Links follow and can be separated or arranged into formations. In multiplayer, each player controls a Link using a Game Boy Advance connected to the GameCube.
The four-character design is more than a visual gimmick. Some puzzles require the Links to stand in specific formations, cross separate paths, or activate switches at the same time. The game also includes Shadow Battle, a competitive mode in which players fight one another.
A common mix-up is confusing the number of players with the number of Links. There can always be four Link characters in the main adventure, even when fewer than four people are playing. The game was released for the GameCube in 2004.
