In 'Dune', what is the name of the native people of Arrakis?

The story behind the answer

In Dune, the native people of Arrakis are called the Fremen.

The Fremen are a human culture adapted to the extreme desert conditions of Arrakis, also known as Dune. They live in communities called sietches and have developed strict customs centered on conserving water, the planet’s most precious resource. Their stillsuits reclaim moisture from the body, helping them survive in an environment where open water is almost nonexistent.

The Fremen are not simply a minor desert tribe. They are numerous, highly disciplined fighters and skilled desert travelers who understand the behavior of Arrakis’s giant sandworms. Their culture also includes a long-term plan to transform parts of Arrakis into a greener world. Their ancestors arrived after generations of wandering as the Zensunni Wanderers, gradually becoming adapted to the planet.

The wrong options describe other groups or factions. The Harkonnens are a rival noble House, the Bene Gesserit are a powerful religious and political order, and the Sardaukar are the Emperor’s elite troops. Fremen society is also central to Paul Atreides’s rise as Muad’Dib in Frank Herbert’s original 1965 novel.
