In Dragon's Den, who was the first presenter of the British version?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis was the first presenter of the British television programme Dragon's Den.

Davis, a journalist and broadcaster, hosted the programme when it began on BBC Two in 2005. His role was to introduce entrepreneurs, explain the terms of their pitches and guide viewers through the negotiations with the Dragons. He was not one of the investors; the people making offers sat on the panel.

Davis had already built a reputation through BBC business and news broadcasting. His calm presentation style helped make complex subjects such as equity, valuation and profit understandable to a general audience. He remained closely associated with the programme during its early years.

Viewers sometimes confuse the presenter with the investors because the format gives the Dragons most of the screen time. The original panel included Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Theo Paphitis and Doug Richard, while Davis acted as the programme's host and narrator.
