Peter Jones launched the technology company Phones International Group.
Jones founded Phones International Group in 1998. The company operated in the mobile-communications sector, a field that matched his broader interest in consumer technology and helped establish his reputation as a technology entrepreneur before his television career expanded.
He was one of the original investors on the British Dragon's Den panel and became one of its longest-serving Dragons. Jones has also been associated with businesses and investments involving electronics, mobile communications, retail and leisure.
Phones International Group should not be confused with Phones 4u, the separate mobile-phone retailer founded by John Caudwell. Both names belong to the telecommunications world, which makes the distinction especially useful when identifying the correct entrepreneur. Jones founded Phones International Group; Caudwell co-founded Phones 4u. The two companies and founders are not interchangeable.
