In Dragon's Den, which entrepreneur became the show's first female investor when the UK series launched in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Rachel Elnaugh was one of the first female investors on Dragon's Den when the UK series launched in 2005.

Elnaugh was a co-founder of Red Letter Days, a company selling experience gifts such as driving days, spa visits and other activities. Her business background made her a notable member of the original Dragon's Den panel, alongside Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Simon Woodroffe and Theo Paphitis in the early programme history.

She left the regular panel after the first series. The programme subsequently introduced other female Dragons, including Deborah Meaden, who became one of its longest-serving investors, and later Kelly Hoppen and Sara Davies.

People sometimes remember Meaden as the show's first female Dragon because she became much more closely associated with its long-running panel. Historically, however, Elnaugh was part of the original 2005 investment team.
