Entrepreneurs make their investment pitches in the Den on the British television programme Dragon's Den. The name is both the show's title and the setting in which founders face the investor panel.
A typical pitch begins with an entrepreneur entering the room and making a prepared presentation. The Dragons then ask questions about the product, finances, customers, ownership and requested investment. If one or more investors are interested, negotiations may continue over the percentage of the business offered.
The term is sometimes confused with “boardroom,” a word associated with other business reality programmes. Dragon's Den deliberately uses animal imagery: the investors are Dragons and the entrepreneurs enter their Den. The televised agreement is also not the final legal completion of a deal; after filming, the proposed investment is subject to due diligence and may change or fail to complete.
