In Dragons' Den, what is the name of the Japanese television format on which the British series is based?

The story behind the answer

The British series Dragons' Den is based on the Japanese television format Money Tigers.

Money Tigers was created in Japan and provided the model for a format in which entrepreneurs pitch business ideas to wealthy investors. The investors question the founders, assess the commercial opportunity and decide whether to offer money for an ownership stake.

The format was later adapted internationally under the Dragons' Den name, with local versions changing the investors, presenters and business examples while retaining the central pitch structure. In the United States, the related adaptation is known as Shark Tank, which is why the two programmes are often discussed together.

Money Tigers is sometimes incorrectly described as merely an alternative title for the British programme. It is actually the Japanese source format, while Dragons' Den is the title used by the British and several other international versions.
