In Dragon's Den, an entrepreneur's presentation to the investors is called a pitch.
A pitch is the structured presentation in which a founder explains a business idea, product or established company. It normally covers the amount of money requested, the percentage of equity offered, sales performance and the reasons the business could grow.
The word is specific to the programme’s investment setting, although it is also widely used in business more generally. A pitch is not the same as an audition: the entrepreneur is seeking commercial investment rather than a role in a performance.
After the presentation, the Dragons ask questions and may negotiate. An offer made in the studio is also subject to further checks, so an apparent agreement on screen does not necessarily mean that an investment is finally completed.
