In 'Divergent', what is the faction that values bravery?

The story behind the answer

In Veronica Roth’s Divergent, the faction that values bravery is Dauntless.

Dauntless is one of five factions in the novel’s post-apocalyptic Chicago. Its members are associated with courage, fearlessness, and the willingness to confront danger. They commonly wear black clothing, use tattoos and piercings as forms of expression, and maintain a headquarters connected to the city’s abandoned infrastructure.

Sixteen-year-olds choose a faction after taking an aptitude test, although they are ultimately expected to commit through the Choosing Ceremony. Beatrice Prior, born into the selfless Abnegation faction, transfers to Dauntless and begins using the name Tris. Her initiation includes physical combat, weapons training, simulated fears, and dangerous tests designed to measure more than simple toughness.

The other choices represent different values: Amity emphasizes peace, Abnegation selflessness, and Erudite intelligence. Candor, which is not listed among the wrong options, values honesty. A common misconception is that Dauntless rewards recklessness alone; the story also explores whether genuine bravery means acting despite fear and protecting others. Roth’s first novel was published in 2011.
