In Disney’s 1998 animated film Mulan, which two directors shared the directing credit?

The story behind the answer

Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook shared the directing credit for Disney’s 1998 animated film Mulan.

The two directors guided the film through story development, animation, character work, action staging, and final production. Mulan was produced during Disney’s late-1990s period of major animated releases, when traditionally animated features were created by large teams of artists and technical departments.

Bancroft had worked as an animator and supervising animator at Disney. Cook also had extensive Disney animation experience and later directed Arthur Christmas with Sarah Smith. Their combined work helped balance Mulan’s comic elements with its more serious story about identity, family duty, and military service.

The directors are sometimes confused with the film’s producers, writers, or composers. Chris Sanders and Rita Hsiao were among the credited writers, while Pam Coats produced the film.
