In Disney’s 1998 animated film Mulan, the large and calm recruit is named Chien-Po.
Chien-Po trains with Mulan, Ling, and Yao under Captain Li Shang. He is physically powerful but gentle and contemplative, and he is often shown enjoying food or discussing peaceful subjects. His personality provides a contrast with Yao’s short temper and Ling’s joking nature.
The three recruits become important allies after initially mocking Mulan during training. They later accept her as a capable soldier and join her in the effort to warn the Emperor. Chien-Po’s name is sometimes confused with the names of the other recruits, but his size and calm demeanor make him distinctive.
