In Disney's 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast, the enchanted servants perform “Be Our Guest” for Belle at dinner.
Lumière leads the spectacular production number, encouraging Belle to enjoy a lavish meal while the castle’s objects sing and dance. The sequence presents the servants as entertainers and helps transform the frightening castle into a more welcoming place.
Alan Menken wrote the music and Howard Ashman wrote the lyrics. The song was originally planned as a number for Maurice, but the finished film redirects it to Belle after she arrives at the castle. Its elaborate staging became one of the best-known sequences in Disney animation.
The song received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. It is often mistakenly attributed only to Lumière, but “Be Our Guest” is performed by a larger ensemble of enchanted household characters.
