Gaston is the villain who leads the angry mob toward the Beast’s castle in Disney’s 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast. After Belle returns to the castle and the Beast begins transforming emotionally, Gaston organizes the attack because he wants to kill the Beast and marry Belle.
The character was created for Disney’s animated version rather than being a central figure in the traditional fairy tale. He embodies vanity, entitlement, and physical bravado, contrasting with the Beast’s gradual capacity for empathy. His sidekick LeFou accompanies him, but Gaston is the mob’s leader and the story’s principal human antagonist.
Gaston’s assault culminates in a fight with the Beast on the castle roof. The Beast initially has the advantage but spares Gaston after Belle’s arrival, showing his change of heart. Gaston then attacks from behind, loses his footing, and falls from the roof.
