In Disney's 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid, Ursula's two moray eel companions are Flotsam and Jetsam.
Flotsam and Jetsam serve as Ursula's spies and messengers. They observe events around Atlantica and report information to Ursula, including details about Ariel's interest in the human world. Their names are a paired nautical expression: “flotsam” refers to floating wreckage, while “jetsam” traditionally refers to goods thrown overboard.
The eels also help Ursula monitor Ariel after the sea witch makes her bargain. Their glowing eyes and synchronized movements make them visually distinctive among the film's supernatural characters.
They are often confused with other Disney villain sidekicks, such as Pain and Panic from Hercules or Shenzi and Banzai from The Lion King. Flotsam and Jetsam belong specifically to Ursula's underwater lair and are depicted as moray eels.
