In Die Hard 2, at which Washington airport does John McClane battle the terrorists?

The story behind the answer

In Die Hard 2, John McClane battles terrorists at Washington Dulles International Airport.

The airport is taken over during a Christmas Eve crisis after terrorists seize the air-traffic-control systems and threaten aircraft circling above Washington, D.C. McClane, visiting to meet his wife Holly, becomes involved after noticing suspicious activity and trying to warn officials.

The film uses Dulles as the setting for its fictional emergency, although much of the production was filmed elsewhere. The airport’s distinctive modernist terminal, designed by Eero Saarinen, helps give the story a recognizable aviation setting.

Renny Harlin directed Die Hard 2, released in 1990. It is not a 1980s film, but it continues the 1988 original. The airport is often confused with Reagan National because both serve Washington, yet the movie explicitly uses the name Washington Dulles International Airport.
