In Destiny, Crota is the Hive leader who is the son of Oryx.
Crota is a major Hive prince and one of the most feared figures in Destiny’s mythology. He is identified by the title “Crota, Son of Oryx,” linking him directly to Oryx, the Taken King. Crota became a powerful Hive deity and war leader, leading invasions and building a reputation as a destroyer of Guardians and worlds.
His most famous campaign in the original Destiny involved the assault on Earth’s Moon. The attack became known as the Great Disaster, in which a massive Guardian force attempted to stop Crota and suffered catastrophic losses. Crota later became the central enemy of The Dark Below expansion and its raid, Crota’s End.
Savathûn and Xivu Arath are also members of Oryx’s family, but they are his siblings rather than Crota’s identity. Nokris was another son of Oryx, yet he was a separate Hive figure and not the leader described in this question. Crota’s epithet, “Eater of Hope,” reflects his role as a brutal champion of the Hive.
