In Despicable Me 4, the villain Maxime’s surname is Le Mal.
Maxime Le Mal is the principal antagonist of Despicable Me 4. He is an old enemy of Gru and seeks revenge after their history at school and in the villain world. His name is a French phrase meaning “the evil” or “the bad,” fitting the series’ playful approach to villain names.
Maxime is accompanied by Valentina, and he uses a cockroach-themed transformation and technology in his campaign against Gru. The threat forces Gru, Lucy, and their children to enter a witness-protection arrangement.
Maxime Le Mal is not connected to Scarlet Overkill, Balthazar Bratt, or El Macho. Those villains belong to earlier entries in the franchise. The surname “Le Mal” is the identifying part needed to distinguish Maxime from other animated antagonists.
