In Despicable Me 2, the villain disguising himself as Eduardo Pérez is El Macho.
Eduardo Pérez operates Salsa & Salsa, a Mexican restaurant in the Paradise Mall, but his identity is eventually revealed as El Macho, a supposedly deceased supervillain. Gru initially investigates him because the Anti-Villain League suspects that the missing criminal may still be active.
El Macho’s plan depends on transforming ordinary Minions into aggressive purple creatures. He uses PX-41, a mutagenic serum, and intends to create a powerful army under his control. This plot makes the Minions’ transformation one of the film’s most recognizable visual developments.
Benjamin Bratt voices El Macho. The character’s apparent death is part of his legend, while the name Eduardo Pérez is the public identity he uses while running his restaurant. That disguise is why both names appear prominently in discussions of the film.
