In Cyberpunk 2077, the elite NCPD tactical unit is called MaxTac.
MaxTac is short for Maximum Force Tactical Division. The unit is deployed against exceptionally dangerous threats, especially cyberpsychos and other heavily augmented criminals. Its members use advanced weapons, armor, and cyberware, making them far more formidable than ordinary Night City police.
The unit has a complicated reputation because many MaxTac officers are former cyberpsychos who were captured and recruited rather than simply imprisoned. This background is part of the wider setting’s exploration of cyberpsychosis, a condition associated with extreme cybernetic augmentation and psychological instability.
MaxTac is often confused with Trauma Team, but the organizations have different roles. Trauma Team is a private emergency medical and security corporation hired by paying clients. MaxTac is a police tactical division, even though both groups use powerful equipment and can arrive rapidly during violent incidents.
