Aslan is the lion who represents the creator and king in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series.
Aslan appears throughout The Chronicles of Narnia as the great lion, ruler of Narnia, and a source of guidance and authority. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, he returns to defeat the White Witch and restores life to Narnia after the long winter.
Lewis described Aslan as an invented character rather than a simple allegorical code. Even so, Aslan’s actions and titles clearly draw on Christian imagery, particularly sacrifice, resurrection, creation, and kingship. His name comes from the Turkish word for “lion.”
Aslan is sometimes confused with Prince Caspian or King Rilian, both important human characters in later Narnia books. Puddleglum is another notable figure, but he is a marsh-wiggle in The Silver Chair, not the lion who rules Narnia.
