In Coming to America, Prince Akeem’s father rules the fictional African kingdom of Zamunda.
Akeem is the crown prince of Zamunda, but he wants to choose a wife for love rather than accept an arranged royal match. He travels to Queens, New York, with his friend Semmi and disguises himself as an ordinary worker while searching for a partner.
Zamunda is an invented setting created for the comedy and is not a real African nation. It is sometimes confused with Wakanda, the fictional country from Marvel stories, but the two belong to different fictional universes. Coming to America was released in 1988 and stars Eddie Murphy in multiple roles.
