In "Charlie Bit My Finger", which brother is bitten?

The story behind the answer

In “Charlie Bit My Finger,” Harry is the brother who is bitten.

The 56-second video shows three-year-old Harry Davies-Carr sitting with his one-year-old brother, Charlie. Charlie first nibbles Harry’s finger, then bites down more firmly while Harry protests and repeats the now-famous line, “Charlie bit me.” The humor comes from the boys’ unplanned reactions rather than a scripted performance.

The family’s father uploaded the video to YouTube on May 22, 2007. It spread rapidly and became one of the platform’s defining early viral videos, eventually surpassing “Evolution of Dance” as YouTube’s most-viewed video in October 2009. The brothers’ names are the main source of the common mix-up: Charlie is the biter, while Harry is the bitten child.

The clip was briefly made private in 2021 after a YouTube policy change affecting older unlisted videos, then returned in January 2024. In May 2021, its NFT sale attracted a top bid of $760,999.
