In Better Call Saul, which police department employed Mike Ehrmantraut before he moved to Albuquerque?

Before moving to Albuquerque, Mike Ehrmantraut worked for the Philadelphia Police Department. His history as a Philadelphia police officer is revealed through flashbacks in Better Call Saul.

Mike’s police career explains his expertise in surveillance, weapons, evidence, and tactical planning. It also connects him to the death of his son Matt, who was a fellow Philadelphia police officer. Mike eventually confronts the corrupt officers responsible for Matt’s death before leaving Philadelphia.

The show uses Mike’s past to explain why he is already highly capable when he arrives in New Mexico. A common mistake is identifying the Albuquerque Police Department, because much of Mike’s later activity takes place in Albuquerque and he frequently interacts with local law enforcement.
