The cartel leader who runs the Salamanca family’s operation in Better Call Saul is Hector Salamanca.
Hector, often called Tio by members of his family, is a senior figure in the Juárez Cartel. He oversees the Salamanca organization and expects absolute loyalty from relatives including Tuco, Lalo, and other family members. His rivalry with Gus Fring becomes one of the show’s defining conflicts.
The series also shows Hector before the medical crisis that leaves him unable to walk or speak normally. His later use of a bell to communicate became one of the most recognizable details associated with the wider Breaking Bad universe.
Hector should not be confused with Don Eladio Vuente, the cartel’s overall leader, or Juan Bolsa, another senior cartel figure. Gus Fring is Hector’s principal rival, not the Salamanca family leader.
