In Atari’s 1982 arcade game Food Fight, what is the name of the player character?
Answer
Charlie Chuck
Answer
Charlie Chuck
In Atari’s 1982 arcade game Food Fight, the player character is named Charlie Chuck.
Food Fight was designed by General Computer Corporation and published by Atari for arcades in 1983, although the game is commonly identified with its 1982 development date. Players control Charlie Chuck as he races across colorful fields toward a melting ice-cream cone. To reach it, he throws food at four opponents: Antoine, Fritz, Jacques and Oscar.
The game’s central mechanic is unusual for its period. Instead of firing conventional weapons, Charlie picks up food from the playfield and throws it at enemies or uses it to create temporary obstacles. Different foods have different effects, and the frantic action rewards quick movement and accurate aiming.
Charlie Chuck is sometimes confused with characters from other food-themed games, particularly Peter Pepper from BurgerTime. They are unrelated characters: Peter is a chef pursued by food enemies, while Charlie is a boy competing in a race for ice cream. Food Fight remained an Atari arcade title rather than becoming a major home-console franchise.
