In Assassin's Creed, what is the name of the protagonist who becomes an Assassin in the Holy Land?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is the protagonist who becomes an Assassin in the Holy Land.

Altaïr is the central playable character of the first Assassin's Creed game, released in 2007. The story follows him during the Third Crusade, primarily in the cities of Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. After a failed mission, he must recover his standing within the Assassin Brotherhood while investigating a series of targets.

The name Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is commonly translated as “Altaïr, son of no one,” reflecting the character's identity and his relationship to the Brotherhood. His mentor is Al Mualim, the leader of the Masyaf Assassins.

Players sometimes confuse Altaïr with Ezio, who leads Assassin's Creed II and later games. Connor and Edward Kenway are protagonists from later entries set in colonial America and the Golden Age of Piracy, respectively.
