In Assassin's Creed, what is the name of the protagonist who becomes an Assassin after his family is executed?

The story behind the answer

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is the Assassin’s Creed protagonist who becomes an Assassin after his family is executed.

Ezio is introduced in Assassin’s Creed II, set mainly in Renaissance Italy. At the beginning of the story, he is a young Florentine nobleman rather than a trained killer. His father, Giovanni, and brothers Federico and Petruccio are executed after a political betrayal, forcing Ezio to flee Florence with his mother and sister.

Ezio’s uncle Mario helps him understand the conspiracy surrounding the executions and introduces him to the Assassin legacy. Ezio later travels through Florence, Monteriggioni, Venice, and Rome while confronting powerful Templars and uncovering messages left by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

The character returns as the central figure in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. These games follow his leadership of the Italian Brotherhood and his later journey to Constantinople. He is sometimes confused with Altaïr, the first game’s protagonist, but the two belong to different historical periods and are connected through the Assassin Order.
