In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Ezio defends and rebuilds Rome as the center of his campaign.
Rome is controlled by the Borgia family when Ezio arrives, and Cesare Borgia uses military and political power to dominate the city. Ezio works with allies to weaken Borgia influence, liberate districts, and restore shops and services.
The game makes Rome its principal open-world setting rather than dividing the main campaign among several equally large cities. Ezio also recruits and trains new Assassins there, turning the local resistance into a broader organization.
Florence and Venice are strongly associated with Assassin's Creed II, while Naples is not Brotherhood's central city. The historical Rome of the early 16th century provides recognizable landmarks, although the game compresses chronology and fictionalizes many events. Brotherhood's focus on one city also supports its themes of rebuilding, leadership, and organized resistance.
