Eivor Varinsdottir or Varinson is a Norse raider who leaves Norway with the Raven Clan and settles in England during the ninth century. The settlement at Ravensthorpe becomes the clan's base while Eivor forms alliances and conflicts with English kingdoms and rival groups.
The game draws on the historical Viking expansion in England, including the presence of the Great Heathen Army and the political divisions among Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. Eivor is a fictional character, and Valhalla blends historical figures such as Alfred the Great with the series' fictional Isu mythology. The player can choose Eivor's presentation and voice, but the character remains the story's central Viking leader.
