In Assassin’s Creed Unity, Arno Dorian’s childhood friend and Templar ally is Élise de la Serre.

Élise is the daughter of François de la Serre, the grand master of the French Templars. After Arno’s father dies, Arno is adopted into the de la Serre household, and he and Élise grow up together in Versailles. Their relationship becomes central to Unity’s story.

When François is murdered, Arno is drawn into the Assassin Brotherhood while Élise investigates the internal Templar conflict surrounding her father’s death. Their goals overlap at times, but their affiliations remain different, creating the game’s central personal tension.

Élise is not an Assassin protagonist in the same way Arno is, and she is not simply a generic romantic character: her Templar identity and family position drive the plot. Unity places their story during the French Revolution, beginning in 1789 and continuing through the upheaval in Paris.
