In Assassin's Creed Rogue, which historical event does Shay Cormac witness in Lisbon?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed Rogue, Shay Cormac witnesses the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.

The Lisbon sequence occurs after Shay retrieves an Isu precursor artifact for the Assassins. The artifact's use triggers a catastrophic earthquake, tsunami, and fires that devastate the Portuguese capital. In the game, this disaster becomes the turning point that causes Shay to reject the Assassins' methods and eventually join the Templars.

Historically, the Lisbon earthquake struck on 1 November 1755, a major earthquake and tsunami that caused widespread destruction in Lisbon and surrounding areas. Assassin's Creed Rogue fictionalizes the cause by connecting the disaster to the series' precursor technology, but the event itself is historical.

The sequence is not the Great Fire of London, which occurred in 1666, nor the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Rogue was released in 2014 and is set mainly in the North Atlantic during the Seven Years' War.
